Each month, a selected organisation joins a confidential two-hour SoundingBoard session at Loughborough University.
The session is designed around specific barriers to strategic growth. This focused meeting is a practical forum built around what matters most to the guest business. All eligible organisations have access to this support free of charge.
SoundingBoard sessions foster open dialogue and practical collaboration. With senior volunteer panellists listening from the outset – contributing decades of leadership experience across multiple sectors with SoundingBoard guests.
Before the session, a director contacts the organisation to understand its challenges and plan the meeting agenda. Guests then arrive ready to focus the conversation on specific barriers and opportunities.
SoundingBoard director, George Oliver said: “SoundingBoard creates a space where local leaders can step away from their day-to-day pressures to reflect, share, and connect with people who get it.
“Every session is about generating real ideas and opening doors without barriers or judgement.
“That’s why we make confidentiality and time our top priorities.”
Each session based at Loughborough University:
- Sparks problem solving
- Inspires new thinking
- Unlocks valuable networks
Discussions move at pace. Panellists explore solutions, share insights, and introduce guests to sector contacts. Time is intentionally structured so organisations spend just two hours away from day-to-day operations, ensuring sessions are productive and relevant.
The model works to remove barriers that can hold businesses back from growth.
A Loughborough based, manufacturing consultancy said: “SoundingBoard gave us new avenues to explore and a renewed impetus to stretch ourselves and grow as a business. It was a highly valuable session.”
Confidentiality is guaranteed. All participants agree to maintain strict confidentiality throughout the session. The approach allows for honest dialogue and open reflection. Meaning organisations can speak openly about challenges knowing that their input remains protected.
Every session concludes with a clear plan of action. Guests get a list of next steps, practical ideas, industry contacts, and renewed momentum.
Sessions mean leaders gain space to focus on strategy, connect with peers, and leave with practical ideas and contacts that help their organisations advance.
With support from Charnwood Borough Council and Loughborough University. The network boosts local resilience and builds a connected business community.
